Everything i wish i had known on Day 1 of reporting from the press gallery, incl a couple of things i hadn't cottoned on to yet.

Good column Henry, really speaks to the experience looking in. If you're taking suggestions, and are able, I'd be interested in a similar breakdown from a Ministers perspective - specifically thinking about the impact of receiving and prepping for oral questions, the meat of government decisions (papers, meetings etc. outside of Cabinet), and any impacts or breakdowns between the political and governmental role. Cheers!

I laughed at ‘political tragic’- finally a term that defines me! Thanks for this write up, very interesting.

you're going to put a bunch of government relations firms out of business if you just keep tweeting this kinda info out. Great read

Did I miss where select committees fit into this busy week?

Yes - Wednesday and Thursday sections cover them.

Apparently I did - just had a quick re-read. So only on Wed am and early afternoon? Seems like a very small part of the week for what is an important part of the MPs job, yes?

not quite - also Thursdays. and not exclusively - sometimes SCs sit fridays, recesses, evenings, all sorts of times. but they reliably sit at the times listed and generally like to meet when a) MPs are in Wellington and b) the house is not sitting.

Ok thanks, that makes a bit more sense to me :)
